Customer Challenge

Oil and Gas major was looking at redesigning their Whipstock Retrieval tool for higher load capability. The new design had to engage with the existing hook slot. The new tool was required to be validated for its load carrying capacity as well as manufactured and tested within 12 weeks.

Scope

Design a retrieval hook to be able to engage Whipstock hook slot as per below spec:

  • Tensile rating minimum 150,000 lbs, prefer 175,000 lbs
  • Nozzles/ports to allow flushing around Whipstock hook slot
  • Manufacture and test prototype tool in 12 weeks
  • Create assembly and test procedure (Test Report)

Solution

  • Concept design
  • Detailed design and analytical verification
  • Tensile strength
  • Torque and buckling load
  • Combined load conditions
  • General arrangement layouts, Bill of Material (BoM) for prototype and engineering drawings
  • Supported testing
